A recent JAMA Internal Medicine study released Wednesday indicates that a higher number of firearm laws in a state are associated with a lower rate of firearm fatalities in the state.
2011 CDC reports indicate 11,101 gun related homicides in the U.S., or 3.6 per 100,000. Accidents 851, suicides 19,766, for a total of 32,163.
According to 2011 FBI statistics, there were 12,664 murders in the US, 8,583 caused by firearms. Handguns 72.47% Rifles 3.76% and Shotguns 4.15%.
